Amid all the furore over the drop in interest rates, (two percent in the last month) let us not forget the harm this will do to the prudent saver who has spent years saving to provide in retirement. What of the person who has downsized to provide a top-up to an inadequate pension provision or worst those that have sold up to provide the monies for care.

The Secretary to the Treasury says this will help every home in the country! I think not. Yet again the sector of the population who are less able and have less time ahead of them are being made to pay for the excesses of others.

Pity those who are due to retire shortly and are not on final salary schemes as I dread to think what annuity rates are going to be.
