Last week I lost my 84 year old mum who it has to be said was technically in frail health, but as her last blood tests showed prior to going into hospital for the few days before she died, her blood was at that time in remarkably good condition.  She had ben diagnosed with myelodysplasia three years before but since that time her blood had improved and stabilised and the doctors had been very pleased with her progress.  Unfortunately she became ill a few days before she died but again recovered quickly and came out of hospital but then died suddenly a couple of hours later.  My problem is that the coroner did not carry out a post mortem and for cause of death simply wrote the myelodysplasia which is not even a logical conclusion because it had been recently checked and was I repeat stable and not problematic.  The excuse for not looking further into the cause of death was her frail health but I believe it is age discrimination and the true cause of her death has been brushed under the carpet.  I am not suggesting there is any fault anywhere re her death but if she had been 34 and died at home alone two hours after being released from hospital with the same condition I am convinced the coroner have done a post mortem. I have no knowledge of what treatment they gave her in hospital and my family are desperate to let her go, it is the funeral on Wednesday but I feel something is very wrong here.  I also found very distressing the fact that her body was taken away only an hour after she died when I wanted her to stay at home overnight.  Why was this necessary if they weren't going to look into her death?  I understand this is a difficult topic to post about and I apologise for any distress caused by your reading it but I would appreciate some replies as I feel there are some important issues here, thank you.
