My Mother qualified for a grant because she receives attendance allowance. Are you receiving any benefits such as disability or attendance allowance.  I would query it with Warm Front and ask why you did not qualify.

Hi we get council tax benefit and do qualify for full warm front grant. What the surveyor from Iguana Services said we couldn't have a combi boiler. When we received quote from installers it was in excess of £2700 just to replace boiler which have been told is a rip off. Phoned on 24th Sept. to ask for another installer but as yet have heard nothing as to when this is going to happen. Will have to ring warm front again to see what's going. We are obviously not a priority case.

Hi DawnRun sorry don't know what this installer is like but haven't come across any bad press about them in any of the threads I have read relating to warm front and their installers. Haven't been contacted by a new installer so am going to phone warm front it's 4 weeks since I rang them to ask for a new installer think I've been put at the bottom of the list. Hope your survey goes ok keep us informed.

    Regards Sadgran

I am slighly off topic here but I was told on the phone by a Customer Advisor that the boiler will be replaced only if has stopped working and can’t get spares to repair it.

It is nearly 30 years old and when windy the pilot light keeps going out, despite attempts to repair it.

Could anyone who got a new boiler tell me how bad was your old boiler?

    Thank you

Take no notice Max believe me you will qualify for a new boiler if it is over 12/13 years old no matter if it works or not.

If it's 30years old it will be inefficient compared to modern boilers which ergo means yours cannot be working efficiently and therefore needs replacing.. regards

    Thanks DawnRun

The boiler is a floor standing Potterton Kingfisher RS50 installed when the flat was built in 1963.

Is there some place where I can get the rules and regulations about all this?  This will help me a lot when I talk to them again.

    Thanks

PS. WarmFront is giving a lot of hassle. Don't really know why! Please see the thread 'Warm Front - Eaga plc : Whom to Complain?'

Max,, I found their own website http://www.warmfront.co.uk/files/customer_guides14_09_07.pdf was quite specific about what we should expect.. I,for example have a 13 year old boiler that works intermittently. The Warm Front assessor arranged for an Installer to come out and they agreed it needs replacing. In fact he barely looked at it.Yours is an antique by comparison... Don't stand for any messing, just ask for the Warm Front assessor to visit you and you should'nt have any bother from there on in..

My problem with them is slightly different in that I'm trying to get them to fit a Combi condensing boiler rather than a conventional condensing boiler (I want to get rid of my hot water tank and expansion tanks in the loft by doing so)..DawnRun

    Hi Max

Yes you can get a new boiler even if your existing boiler is working.  A few years ago that might not have been the case.  I know when we first had Warm Front round to us they said as our boiler was in working order we didn't qualify and would  have to wait until it broke down.

Three years later it was still working perfectly well but we had Warm Front send round a surveyor and they told us we did now qualify, so I'm not sure what has changed.

Our old boiler was about 25yrs old and although spare parts were available to a degree it was pretty much past it.  A few weeks later we had our new boiler installed and we also got a new hot water tank which is great as it's one of those that is already lagged, so keeps the water hotter longer.  Another good thing was the new programmer which has much more flexibility than our old manual one and it means we can just heat the water for a couple of hours a day but keep the heating on for longer if needs be.

Hi SadGran,,, Had the engineer (seemed a good, knowledgable bloke too) out today from 'Heating Renewables', to do my system survey and it looks like I've persuaded him into fitting a new Combi(YesYesYes) to replace my existing conventional system...so it can be done after all!.. I will keep you informed.. DawnRun

Who do you think you are making comments like?
    She did'nt know of course..
How dare you just presume she is some stupid person. She has probably worked a 10 hour shift in order to pay her bills and is trying to afford a decent lifestyle. Her tax is paying for this government grant and you are getting it for free. That tells you something....
