   Just a bit of advice about health insurance - whatever you decide, join HSA first! I used to pay into private health insurance, then a few years ago took a good hard look at it and decided I couldn't justify the cost any longer.  It wasn't simply a case of 'not affording', it was 'not justifying' - there's a difference.  However, B and I have been long-term members of HSA and we get 50% back from everything we spend on dental, optical, hospital day-stay or  in-patient however many nights.  It has really, really been worth it.

Sorry, I haven't looked at the site for a while and just seen your post.  I will certainly look at HSA, though if I stay in my present job for another four and a  half years I will be entitled to PPP, so I might hang on and wait!

I know this is dragging this thread on, but thought this would be of interest to someone.  I contacted a firm of solicitors concerning the lack of care my mother received from her GP and hospital consultants as I believe that lack of care was a significant cause of her painful death.  I related my story in detail and was told that unfortunately poor care and communication cannot legally amount to negligence unless a specific negligent act can be pinpointed.  I was also told that poor care is common, particularly with the elderly, and usually the only recourse is through the official complaints procedure.
