Hi stummbled accross this site when trying to find out about ideal boilers fitted by the warm front grant.  Although I am not aged we still qualified for the grant and had the work done in Jan this year, It took 1 month to get everything sorted!! 3 days installation, including 1 day repairing the electrics that they drilled through leaving us with no lights in the house, and worse of all 2 major gas leaks from the boiler its self,  I contacted warm front about this and they were very sorry and offered us a £50 good will gesture which has been refused. It is not about the money before anyone gives me a hard time but £50 does not even cover the expense of having to eat out for 3 people everytime the gas was shut off due to leaks,(2 in 3 days from the same place)  I have now contacted them and informed them that Corgi have been informed and i am thinking of putting a case to the small claims court due to there bad workmanship of the product and Faulty goods. These gas appliances should have been tested before they left the factory!  they put my famalies life at risk and that includes a small child. they even had the nerve to tell me gas is not dangerous!  they are a disgrace.

hi there...just found this site after googling for iguana plumbing...might as well add out two penneth worth! we qualified for the warm front grant and as a result had a survey done by an engineer with a view to renewing the central heating system at our home. the work was for supply of a new boiler, flue to outside, and control unit. our fire would be disconnected but not reconnected, existing back boiler left in situ but disconnected, no radiators changed, the cost is the extent of the grant £2700.00 plus a contribution of £1329.00! at least *** turpin wore a mask! in common with a few comments already made, iguana were not able or willing to give a breakdown of their charges refering us back to warm front. they are to ring us (sic) with a view to discussing this matter further. the suggestion that we ask warm front to get another contractor to quote seems to be the way forward

just an update to above...warm front have told us there is no other contractor to give a comparable quote (presumably for our area), and made it clear that the current quote is only valid for a 3 month period. we will seek a quote ourselves to at least ascertain the market value of this work and will then re think the whole matter......

Well after receiving a reply from my PMP some weeks ago I am STILL waiting for WarmFront to contact me as well as the installers !!!! I have now mailed my MP again telling him that obviously his intervention didn't bother WarFront or installers at all as they are still ignoring me .... waiting for his reply..... annoyingly, this week, in our local evening paper this same MP was extolling the virtues of WarmFront and all it had achieved !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I think some of these installers are just fantasising about prices .... I used to work in the office of a cntral  heating installer - pity he  is now dead and gone or I would have asked him ...... we also never had radiators changed even though we have had them for many years ........ We had a local Corgi Registered heating engineer quote for the work, and we were careful to insist that the same positioning and facilities were duplicated as per the Iguana/Warm Front quote, the only difference seems to be the possible make of the Condenser Boiler, with the fresh quote having potentially a better make!

The quote came to a TOTAL of £1700! Our suggestion of Richard Turpin having an involvement in the first quote seems justified! Needless to say, we intend contacting our local MP, not that we expect it to have any bearing on the outcome in this matter, but to illustrate to anyone who might listen that  the Government, Tax Payer and those who qualify for this grant are being well and truly RIPPED OFF!

Before there could be any suggestion of us looking a gift horse in the mouth, we would rather try to fund the work to be done by this other company ourselves than give the likes of Iguana the satisfaction in making a mint out of those who need help in these regards.

We will update our observations so that if nothing else, we can vent our spleen and perhaps give a few tips to those who might be in our position.

Did any of you watch 'Watchdog' on BBC TV lastnight (Monday) ... there was a feature on Warm Front and the many complaints which included installers ripping off people. They would probably get a shock if everyone of us who is not satisfied with the job for whatever reason, put in a complaint. As for me - yesterday I phoned the installers and finally got someone to talk - one of the engineers is coming out tomorrow to check what should be done to rectify things - well they are not going to move the boiler are they ? So it will still be stuck in my little built in wardrobe in my bedroom !! But perhaps they can get the hot water to flow a bit quicker so I don't have to see gallons of cold going down the drain before it heats up ! I am still going to kick up a fuss about them taking my gas fire away and leaving us with nothing if the central heating breaks down .... you never know they might even do something about the large hole they have left in my living room wall !!  Ah well .... watch this space .............. Hi

I've been given a quote by a plumber registered by warmfront to fit a boiler and two radiators for £3000. Once I picked myself off the floor I felt so annoyed. No way is that affordable by a pensioner.

We had our new boiler fitted under the WarmFront grant system in January 2007, all within the £2,700 grant.

We had, however, had estimates from 2 or 3 local firms before discovering we qualified for the grant, and none of those was below £3,000. We had been prepared to have it done locally, so don't be so quick to assume what is and is not affordable by a pensioner!

where do i begin "warmfront" i just dont know what to say regarding these people! my blood boils at the mere mention. ill tell you a little bit about our story. nearly a year ago now we had a new boiler cylinder along with thermostats etc no complaints re the price but my god im still trying to get them to compensate us for the damage to our property. we had torn lino in the kitchen they put a hole through our wall into our dining room for a gas pipe but this hole was right up the wall in full view! they never asked where we wanted it they just used the quickest root! in the process of this they also damaged tiles in kitchen dado rail in dining room. when asked they did move this pipe then put polyfilla in the holes and that was that! they also caused a great deal of damage to our airing cupboard by trying to cram in a cylinder that was clearly too large and they left the wooden doors outside in the rain which they replaced with mdf! this is just a brief recap believe me the story goes on! i am now in contact with eaga complaints dept which in my opinion so far have done nothing to fight our corner. if anyone could offer advice on where to go from here i would be very grateful.

thanks for really making me smile i was just looking for a new job as a central heating installer as i've been working for a small firm who does a lot of warm front work so you never know i may have been to your home already when i saw what has to be some of the most ill informed rubbish i've ever read  i`m very sorry about the person who said that when they had there job done they left the place in a mess belive me we are not all like this but you would not belive some of the rubbish we have to put up with people who seem to think that you can just magic in a whole system without making any mess what so ever is just not going to happen ever single job i've done we make a mess but we make a piont of tidying up after ourself and also about plumbers earning a £1000 pound a day for each man well this has got to be the most ill informed thing i've ever heard and i hope i never have to step foot in the mans house who was foolish enough to think this by the time the job gets to the heating team that turns up at your house the jobs more than likely gone through a coulpe of frims and the heating team gets about 600 to 700 pounds to do the job not each man the job so if 2 or 3 men turn whoever is the lead plumber or boss has to pay his guys out of that money plus his fuel bill to get to the job and belive me they are not ever local jobs we live in essex and most of our work is outside of essex so next time your thinking of having a go at the plumber doing your work for you for warmfront just think his not earning £1000 a man a day thats rubbish

    Hello heating boy

I hope you saw my posts in this thread refuting the nonsense written about 'plumbers driving Bentleys' etc etc.  People don't seem to be aware that the people who install central heating are not 'plumbers' but heating engineers with their own qualifications which, as you know, they have to pay for.

We live in Essex, near Southend.  We couldn't be more pleased with the work that was done in our house in January 2007 by 2 men who work for a firm called Intaglow.  It was all done exactly as we asked, was done within a day and no mess at all was left behind.  Our system continues to work very well indeed and we are pleased with it.

We were prepared to pay to have this work done and had had 3 estimates beforehand, none of which was below £3K.  One we turned down because he insisted that the boiler would have to go on the kitchen wall, thereby messing up my picture tiles.  One agreed with us that the loft was the ideal place to put the boiler, but in the event, we discovered that I qualified for the £2,700 grant because I receive Attendance Allowance. We are always being urged to 'claim whatever you're entitled to' so, why not.

I'm often hearing people say 'oh, it's only a little 2-bed terrace, it couldn't have been hard to do.' Even I can see that it might have been harder than in e.g. a semi bungalow like ours, because in a terrace house there's only one wall - the back wall - where the outlet pipe can go, and where's the gas supply to connect to? Where is the boiler to be situated? All these things make it more complicated than e.g. a job like ours, which, we were told, was dead simple compared with some that the heating engineers have to deal with.

There must be other satisfied customers out there!

Its good to hear of someone being happy with warm front but sadley your really in the minority, its even been brought up in the house of commons and on watchdog. Quite simply we are being ripped off by greedy men who brag about ther holiday home abroad new car every year , whilst looking at what needs doing! to tel you dont worry you will be covered by the grant easily, then send a bill asking for £700 more!!!

its the unwillingness to tell you what you are paying for that makes me so cross, you wouldnt hand over money in the supermarket and not know what it was for??

Its the fact that the company told me to go to my council and ask for a top up grant (another little loop hole they know about) and then they could come out.

We can complain to Warm Front but as it stands at the moment even our MPs cant get to the bottom of it what chance has normal joe .

warm front pass on the work to contractors and just pass the bill on to us, quite simply they dont care. A family member of mine works for a company that has subcontracted for some warmfront work and its common knowlege that they work as quick as they can time is money get more done in a day but charge way over the top rates.

thankyou if you have read this, look up the commons speechs on the web and see you really were one of the lucky ones

keep smiling and beehappy is my motto in a greedy sad world, must go and put another jumper on :(

I had a good experience with Warmfront to begin with. New boiler, pump, room stat and timer etc. Everything went well until after the installation. When the boiler begins to fire-up for heat or water it causes interference on the TV or radio which lasts up to 60 seconds. In cold periods this happens several times per hour. Warmsure say its not their problem and the installer also claims the same. Nobody wil fix it. Keeping this as brief as I can, I cant even count the number of phone calls I have made (taking ages to answer) to a call center where promises are made and broken. My last call was February 2007 when I was informed that my problem wasnt the concern of Warmsure and I was refused a request to speak to an authorative person. I now pay for a British Gas contract even though my boiler isnt a year old yet. I wouldnt let anybody connected with Warmsure into my home now.
