Is your room stat wireless or wired? If it's a wireless then changing to a wired stat may solve the problem. So I'm told by the engineer who lives in this house. He also suggests checking the aerial connection to the back of the TV set and also any other coaxial connections should be checked.

    warm front are a joke

We applyed for a grant for oil heating as the house we bought in november has no hot water or heating.

We have 2 kids 19mts and a 4 yr both have skin problems and we need the hot water so they can have regular baths with bath oil that the dr has given us.

we applyed for our grant on april  the 4th within 3 weeks the lads came and told us what we would need and were it was all going they seemed quite good at this point.

we were told that within 4 weeks we would have our quote and would know if we would haveto add any extra.

6 weeks later my dr and hv sent them a letter saying this is urgent and needs to be sorted out asap warm front aggreed

7 weeks later i phoned them to find out about our quote they said we will get in touch with the company that will be supplying all the stuff and find out were your quote is they even gave me the phone number off the company so i could phone them as well.

a few days later i was told the quote had been submitted wrong the company supplying the stuff said they would send the quote through the post i was told by warm front that the quote would be sitting on there desk for 4 weeks befour someone will look at it so i said ok i will phone in 4 weeks then they said ok .

so yesterday i phoned them and gess what the company has not sent the quote in 4 weeks wasted and they told me to phone them in a few days to see it the email quote has been sent

this is all a big joke and i am getting fedup with haveing to phone them 1 bloke sort off said dont phone again at this rate the 6 month dead line to have all work compleated will off passed my kids need this and warm front dont seem botherd about it.

Hello Kathie As I read your letter I kept telling myself this is me talking the only differance the cost to me was £664 81, but as I live on my own and had had no hot water for meny weeks I felt desperate so had to pay the extra money on a credit card which will cost me even more with the interest, added, untill I can pay it all off ,I have found the cost of the boiler price was £829 00 and as you say wage's for two men for one day plus inspections at two half hour's a couple of phone call . I estimate it all at less than £,20000. so as you say someone is making a lot of money and I ask who's pocket are we lining, I am now going to try and complain and ask for a full breakdown of just what I have paid for, will let you know there reply if i get one. 2 men's wages: you can assume £180 an hour for the 2 of them, assuming one was fully-qualified and the other wasn't.  Assuming they were there for 7 hours that's £1260. Cost of boiler £829, and additional items such as copper piping, controls, lagging, insulation.

For credit cards, it may be possible to do a balance transfer to a card which offers 0%.  www.moneysupermarket.com/cards/

Like others on here I was just googling Warm Front when I came upon this forum and have joined so that I can ask some advice before I go ahead with using Warm Front.

I am not elderly but am eligible for a grant as I am receipt of DLA.  A few years ago we had our loft insulated with a grant and were very pleased with the work done and could also have had our cavity walls insulated if they hadn't already been done.

A few weeks ago we applied for a heating grant as our central heating boiler is about 25yrs old.  We have been asked to pay an additional £808 as the £2,700 doesn't cover all the work and we are okay with that.  However it does seem some people on here have had problems and that of course does worry us.  We don't have enough money to pay for a new boiler without using the scheme and the company that came to do our survery are called Interglow and so far I have only read good report about them.

    Hello, Mercedes
We had our boiler replaced in January 2007 by Interglow and we have nothing but praise for the work they carried out.
Our work was done within the grant of £2,700 but since then there has been a huge rise in the cost of raw materials - copper piping in particular.  I would discount all the emotive language about 'plumbers driving Bentleys' etc.  The two men who did ours worked like Trojans, everything was done as we'd asked, all tested thoroughly and left clean, tidy and in good working order.
I don't know where you are, but we're in south-east Essex, near Southend.
       Best wishes, Margaret

    Hi Margaret

Thank you for that, I was beginning to get a bit worried.  The last thing I want is to pay out money and find that we end up with problems.

I am in SW Herts and the engineer that came to survey our heating system came from Royston which is where I believe Interglow are based.

    Thanks

    Mercedes

Well we had our new central heating boiler installed this week and I have to say I have no complaints at all with how the installers worked.  It took 2 of them 2 days and we have a lovely big boiler, new hot water tank, new timer, new room stat, system was all power flushed, lots of new copper pipes etc.  The 2 fitters were friendly and polite and even though the weather was atrocious they put sheets down everywhere and cleaned up when they had finished.   Even though they had a long journey home they took the time to talk us through all the various controls.

We did have to pay nearly an extra £1,000 over the grant of £2,700 but I think if you look around having a new boiler installed these days is very expensive.

    Hi Kathie,

I recently had a heating engineer in to give me a quote for the installation of a combi boiler (my old back boiler was becoming uneconomial) and three radiators.  The amount was £1700 which I thought was very reasonable.  The engineer suggested that instead of useing my savings, to contact the Warm Front team as they maybe able to give me a grant. I did this and they very kindly sent me an engineer to examine my old boiler (he didd'nt even look at it, just looked where they could install the combi), I later had an estimate of £2776, I was amazed at the extramly kind grant of £2700 with me only having to pay £76 excess.  The work did not include any new radiators or thermostat controls as in my earlier estimate but at a cost of £76 I was not going to complain.  The work was a different matter, the work team placed a ladder (unsecured) at the front of my house, this subsequently fell down striking the roof of my extention and braking the roof tiles.  The plumbing leaked requiring my front room and three piece suite to be cleaned and redecorated.  The water ran down the inside of my conservatory again causing water damage that could only be rectified by the purchase of a humidifier to dry it out and then redecorating.  The installation team also put the overflow pipe out through my facia and drilled into the guttering, sealing it with mastic.  Of course this leaks and drips onto the roof of my conservatory, with the excessive rain over the past few day's this has gradually turned into a torrent and guess what?  Yes you are right I now have water running down the inside walls of my conservatory again.  I have tried to contact the installers without any luck so I am now having to go back to Warm Front to see what they can do.

I also agree with you that the installers employed by warm front are not good value for money and feel that the provision of three estimates from applicants would be a fairer and more economical way of allowing grants.

    Regards,

    Tom.

hi steve - i father to 3 plus 2 inherited !! is any forum available to show what an absolute disgrace Warm Front (or eaga plc headed by Sir John Clough MBE) for those in the know !!! When originally tendered it was at a cost of £1787.62 of Defra's  (THE TAXPAYERS) money that was gonna pay for a Vaillant Ecomax 826 condensing boiler 5 rads timer and thermo as well as servicing as standard for 7 year !! - i still within the insulation business and yet 2 find how the hell £2,700 of taxpayers money is consumed by a single inferior boiler plus cost to ANYONE !! by my reckonin that leave nigh on a grand for other measures which did include loft and cavity insulation security measures CFL's etc yet still i constantly hear that people just havin boiler are still payin !! NOTE !!! PRICE ABOVE INCLUDED TAPPIN INTO MAINS GAS SUPPLY WITHIN 23 METRE OF PROPERTY in which scenario would expect grant to be fully utilised !! ps iguana is eaga partnerships own company !!! comments please !!

warm front is EAGA !! iguana is EAGA's company !! total daylight robbery ! i been involved in insulation industry for over 15 years never seen anythin so blatantly fraudulent as what i see now on an almost daily basis - pardon the french but the "surveyors" who come to do the survey (could name names but for now wont) are a pompous bunch of little shits who would not know a flemish bond from a traditional build(please note warm front grant is SUPPOSED to encompass Cavity wall and loft as well)  but suprise suprise "funds have run out"  - little or know knowledge of ventilation requirements the words INEPT and TOTALLY definately come to mind !! - some people obviously feel ok rippin of the elderly - SHAME ON YOU !!

Hi we had engineer around Wednesday who said we didn't qualify for combi boiler but could have like for like boiler replacement keeping exisisting hot water cylinder. We had cylinder that corroded and leaked causing damage to kitchen ceiling. We have to have special cylinder because regular size ones are too big for airing cupboard. I think refused us combi because they want to get job done in 1 day and do not want to remove hot water tank because it takes more man hours. It was engineer from Iguana Services who came to assess job.

Interesting. a relative fell into the clutches of this bunch of cowboys last year, I don't know how much it cost in monetary terms but he spent last winter with no heating at all and eventually died early this year never actually receiving satisfactory domestic hot water or heating.  The job was redone from scratch and still completely failed to be serviceable. Conditions were so bad that Social Services had arranged for him to go into a residential home but he was admitted to hospital and died there.  If in any doubt read the comments from some of the professionals on diynot.............. We will forgo £300 and find our own company, not one of those belonging to this group.
