  • Move to Council warden cont'd accomodation 1190

My mother (living alone) is hoping to move from a council elderly persons bungalow to a council residential warden controlled flat.

She is over 90 and has been told that she will be responsible for clearing the bungalow by lifting carpets, taking down shelves, etc., etc., otherwise she will be billed for this service by the council.

On the other hand she has been told by a friend that this rule does not apply if you are over 75.

Could anyone confirm which of these statements is correct please.

You say 'she has been told that...' and then you say 'she has been told by a friend'.

It depends who told her the first piece of information - was it someone with more authority than her friend i.e. was it a Council representative?

The best thing to do would be to ask the council in the area where she lives. I would always take authoritative statements and information rather than anything from a friend, who may or may not be well-informed.

I would suggest you contact the local council on your Mum's behalf and ask them this question specifically - and get the council to reply to you IN WRITING, so there's absolutely no doubt about their answer!

Your Mum's local councillor should be able to help on this.
