Having just bought and then had to exchange a new TV for an elderly relative can I tell you of a problem for the elderly with modern electronic new TVs such as you might buy to get ready for the switch over to digital.
Old style TVs had mechanical function buttons, so when you wanted Channel 2 you pressed button '2' and before you let go the station you wanted had appeared.
With many new TVs there is an automatic repeat function on the buttons so that when you press the '2' button, if you hold the button down it selects '2', then '22' and then '222'.  In  3 weeks of struggling with her new TV, and with loads of help and encouragement, my 86 year old relative never managed to get the station she wanted.
In the end we tried every TV in the shop until we found one where if you want Channel 2 you can press and hold the '2' button for as long as you want.  And if you want Channel 22, you press and release the '2' button and press it again.
Thanks you John Lewis for giving us a full refund for the first TV and for all the help in finding one that returned my elderly relative to independent TV watching.
