Hi i am a new user of the site and was wondering if anyone out there is aware of any grants available, for updating central heating systems, which can be applied for by people on disability living allowance and in council properties. Have looked at Warm Front and it seems that you have to own your home, or live in private rented property to have a chance.  Would appreciate any advice since we have the old blow air system and it is playing havoc with my husband's breathing he has COPD.

    Regards philo

Have you tried the council that you rent your property from? They are obliged to update all properties to a decent standard (i.e. kitchen, bathroom, electrics and central heating. The Government is obliged to update heating to to an energy efficient standard and are given a certain amount of money to do so.

Many thanks for the reply, in answer, yes we have contacted the council, but you know how it works you have to wait for them to get their fingers out and that can take forever!!! i just thought that maybe someone might know of a grant that we could apply for. At the end of the day The Government  can only appoint the people who are supposed to oversee their policies as far as social housing is concerned, getting the thing done at grass roots is the tricky bit i think.
