  • Shopping around for travel and motor insurance 517

I'd like to hear from anyone that has ever had trouble getting travel or motor insurance cover because of their age.

I'd also like to hear from people that shopped around for a better/cheaper insurance deal, perhaps having been loyal to another insurer for a long time.

    Many thanks!

    Hi Elle

First part of your question - no, not so far (we're early 70s).  Second part: we regularly 'ditch-and-switch'.  We review everything at least once a year when renewal comes up.  There's no such thing as loyalty - we look for the provider who's offering the best deal at the time, whether that's for home insurance, electricity and gas, motor or travel insurance, whatever it might be.  We look for the best deals all of the time, and being retired, with internet access, we have the ability to do that.

I have always enjoyed travelling and visiting family abroad or just going on holiday for a change of scenery. I don’t think there is any bias towards us due to our age, or at least I have not experienced any so far (touch wood). Many factors go into travel insurance and the premiums, the obvious one being medical conditions. There are several travel insurance companies who specialise in insurance for the over 65’s out there its just a case of seeing who offers what and what medical conditions they cover before going ahead and purchasing the policy. I have used the same company for the past 3 years now but only because I find there service exceptional. But I still shop around to see what other people have to offer, and with access to the Internet this is even easier. Eleanor x
