Welcome to the extra November Preventing Falls Update from Help the Aged.
Are you an older person looking for a new challenge? An exercise professional who wants to specialise in teaching older adults? A care home manager planning exercise classes for residents? Or a health professional trying to gain skills in teaching exercises for healthy ageing? If so, the re-launched Help the Aged Exercise Bursary Scheme could be for you!

Help the Aged is offering a limited number of bursaries to enable people to attend training courses for free aiming to increase the provision and quality of trained exercise instructors for older people.
Who are we looking for?
Hard-working and determined people who want to train to lead exercise or to encourage others to take up exercise. Each course has different entry requirements so you might be an active older person, nurse, physiotherapist or community worker for older people. If you have the relevant qualifications and can show us how you will use your training to benefit older people, please apply.
What courses are available?
Limited places on six courses are on offer from four training providers, which are recognized by the Register of Exercise Professionals,
  • EXTEND training (EXTEND)
  • Postural Stability Instructor (Later Life Training)
  • Chair-Based Exercise Leadership, (Later Life Training and S4B Leicester College)
  • OTAGO Exercise Leadership Award (Later Life Training)
  • Motivate Me! (Later Life Training)
  • Teaching Fitness through Movement and Dance to Older Adults (Keep Fit Association)

    How do I apply?
    Read the Course Outline and Important Information for the course you are interested in, checking that you have the relevant qualifications for the course and agree to the terms of the bursary. These can be downloaded from the website.  

    Finally, complete and return the Application Form by 5pm on 14 December 2007 to Cheryl Blake, Exercise Bursary Scheme, Help the Aged, 5th Floor, 207-221 Pentonville Road, London N1 9UZ or fax to 020 7239 1889.
