Dear Supporter,
Welcome to your monthly campaigns update from Help the Aged.
This month campaigners from across the country contribute to the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All, and the 'Your Winter Warm Up' pack helps older people get the benefits they need so they can afford to heat their homes properly.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our campaigns this year. It has made a huge difference. Watch out for our campaigner survey in the new year and have your say about our campaigns.

Help the Aged held an exciting and interactive event with over 50 campaigners to mark the closing of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All.
The event focused on the EU Year themes of Rights, Representation, Recognition and Respect and explored the extent to which older people enjoy equal treatment in today's society.
Participants created a "wish list", which will be presented to the Government and European leaders - providing a testament of older Britons' drive to create a fairer, more equal society.
This event formed part of the ongoing Just Equal Treatment campaign which remains a priority for Help the Aged in 2008.

Campaign update
Last winter, over 25,000 older people died of a preventable cold related illness. Recent research from the British Gas Help the Aged Partnership revealed that over 2.5 million older people live in one room of their home to keep warm and save heating costs.
Activists throughout the UK have joined the Partnership's winter campaign, delivering free greeting cards with vouchers for benefits checks to older people. Pensioners can lose up to £50,000 over a lifetime by not claiming benefits, and you can help spread the message by ordering your free greeting cards and distributing them.

Local Help the Aged shops will be selling hand-crafted pin badges from South Africa to commemorate World Aids Day (1 December 2007) and help provide a lifeline to those affected by HIV/AIDS in developing countries.
The pin badges are hand made by grandmothers of children who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS in South Africa, where over 60 percent of orphaned children are living with their grandparents. These pin badges provide grandparents with a vital source of income to help them care for their orphaned grandchildren.
