Flu
2. ‘High risk’ groups
The groups who are considered to be at a 'high risk' from flu include:
- people aged 65 and over;
- people with respiratory disease such as bronchitis, asthma and emphysema;
- people with heart disease, kidney disease or diabetes;
- people whose immune system is weak because of disease or treatment; and
- residents of care homes or other long-stay care accommodation.
The Department of Health specifically recommends vaccination of those people who are in a 'high risk' group.
Please note that if you are a carer of an older person, you should consider getting a vaccination yourself. If you get flu, you risk not being able to care for others, and may also transmit the virus to them.
