Depression or dementia?

The symptoms of depression can sometimes be mistaken for those of dementia and vice versa.

Dementia

Dementia is the name given to disturbing symptoms which include confusion and memory problems, caused by changes in the brain.

Depression

One in eight people over 65 is affected by depression, often triggered by a physical illness or bereavement.

Problems with alcohol

Alcohol changes how we feel. For this reason it can be very tempting to turn to alcohol when we are feeling worried, upset or depressed.
