Rheumatism
Rheumatism is the term used to describe any pain or inflammation in or around the bones, muscles or joints.
Rheumatism includes arthritis, which specifically means inflammation of the joints.
There are three groups of rheumatic diseases:
- osteoarthritis
- inflammatory arthritis
- soft tissue rheumatism
There is a wide range of causes for these conditions. Several genetic factors play a part, so if your parents or a sibling have arthritis you will be more likely to develop it yourself, however it is not inevitable.
