Stroke
2. The effects of stroke
The effects of stroke will vary from person to person. They will depend upon where the stroke took place in the brain and whether it was mild or severe, as well as on the individual's age and general health.
Common symptoms of stroke include numbness, weakness or paralysis affecting one side of the body, or just an arm, leg or one side of the face.
There may also be difficulties in communicating due to slurring or loss of speech or problems in understanding what is being said. Some people may experience difficulties in swallowing, incontinence, unsteadiness or disturbed vision. Other symptoms include loss of concentration, tiredness and memory problems.
In some cases, symptoms may lessen or disappear over time, in others they may remain.
