Attendants will be able to access a whole raft of information, including adice about medication, footwear, have their blood pressure tested and maintaining a safe environmenmt at home. A professional strength and balance trainier will be available on the day to talk to people about relevant exercises which will help to improve balance, stamina and reduce risks of falls. Also there will an opportunity pick up a free copy of Staying Healthy Staying Active brochure which has lots of information about staying healthy and safety in your home. Falling about is a dance production that explores the issues and emotions that arise from falling in a humourous way but also informative and helpful to those at risk from fall. The Hammersmith and Fulham Falls Intervention Service will be in Kings Mall in Hammersmith all day to raise the awareness about the risks associated with falls and to highlight the local resources that can help to prevent falls. We will be providing a chance to give your walking aid an MOT; have a go at a Home hazards quiz, and have your balance checked. We will also be on hand to provide information about local services as well as answer any queries you may have about falls. We will be easily identifiable in the Kings Mall by the red T-shirts. Our free community event open to Southwark and Lambeth residents, will provide information regarding ways to stay healthy, active and independent. It aims to facilitate older people to engage in community services to reduce their risk of falls. We are pleased to have the support of Simon Hughes, local MP and Dr Adrian Hopper, Consultant Geriatrician on the day. The event will include strength and balance assessments, mobility assessments, an exercise class demonstration, competitions, a free public raffle, prizes and a variety of healthcare, social care, voluntary, leisure and emergency services, plus healthcare companies providing information via presentations and information stalls. Ealing PCT will hold three health promotion events on National Falls Awareness Day. Two events will be for the public providing a range of information on falls evidence, response, local services and advice on footwear and medication - Morrisons in Acton in the morning, Tesco, Ealing Broadway in the afternoon. At midday we will also hold an event for health professionals at Clayponds Hospital, Sterling Place, Ealing W54RN, where there will be a number of presentations, an opportunity to meet clinical teams and services related to falls safety, information on Ealing PCT's new policy on falls, networking and a light lunch. This event is organised in association with National Falls Awareness Day. The theme of the event is "stepping out" and we will be advising on 'out and about' activities available to older people in the borough. Also, advice on safe exercise at home and how to motivate the older population to get involved with safe exercise on their own to keep fit and healthy. There will also be information about physical activities available for older people in the borough, advice on footwear and other related issues, and making the environment safer for older people to step out. On 24 June, there would be an afternoon event at one of the elderly community centers to raise awareness and provide information about services in the borough, both health and voluntary sectors.
