Older man by a busGet on Board

For many older people using the bus is a lifeline and the only way to access health services, carry out the daily shopping and engage in social activity.

But when a bus journey results in a fall, it can put an end to all of this.

Research released on National Falls Awareness Day revealed that over 800 older people per day fall on a bus and nearly two million are concerned about falling while a passenger.

In order to highlight this issue and promote better safety measures for older passengers, a number of event holders ran activities with their local bus company on National Falls Awareness Day. Community events and safety workshops were set up to influence local practice and engage bus drivers in the problems older passengers face.
