Line of supporters wearing t-shirts spelling out 'ban ageism'What we want

All political parties must commit to ending ageism inside and outside the workplace using the Equality Bill.

The Bill recently announced by Westminster is a milestone in the battle for fairness in later life.

It proposes for older people:

  • equal access to goods, facilities and services like health and social care, benefits, insurance and credit; and
  • equality of opportunity in planning of community facilities.

But we want all parties to commit to changing the Bill to:

  • outlaw the outmoded national default retirement age. This legislation allows companies to force healthy and capable employees out of a job simply because of their age, even if they wish to continue working past 65; and
  • make all these rights irreversible by committing to lay regulations before the next election.

Join us in calling for Just Equal Treatment by emailing your MP to support and strengthen the Bill today. Take our new action
