Older man holding up a petitionJust Equal Treatment: the issues

Older people are written off every day because of their age. The law must put a stop to this.

Do you think you should be denied access to healthcare, social care, benefits, insurance, credit and work simply because of your date of birth?

The recent Equality Bill is the first step to ending ageism - but the Bill is not yet law.

Nor does it stop employers from forcing workers to retire at the age of 65.

Age Concern and Help the Aged was recently unsuccessful in taking the government to court for maintaining a National Default Retirement Age that allows employers to force workers to retire at 65. A review of this policy is scheduled for 2011 - but we feel this unfair rule should be removed now.

We must call on all politicians to make these new rights irreversible and outlaw forced retirement as part of the Bill. Email your MP now

Your campaigning work has been crucial in getting the Bill this far. Let’s make it count.
