Mobilise: the issues

If you become disabled after 65, you are not entitled to the same benefits as someone younger.

It's shocking but true. Disability Living Allowance (DLA), a benefit paid to help disabled people with their care and mobility needs, is only available to those who become ill before their 65th birthday.

This arbitrary age bar flies in the face of the Government's pledge to end age discrimination.

The Mobilise campaign is a 20-charity strong campaign urging the Government to end the age bar. Organisations including Citizens Advice and the Disability Rights Commission have joined forces with Help the Aged to call for fairer treatment for older disabled people.
