Lose the Loophole: what we've achieved
Help the Aged has fought the loophole in the law applying to care homes which makes older people more vulnerable to abuse.
The Charity's 'Lose the loophole' campaign identified the need to ensure that older people resident in private care homes were fully protected by law.
Hundreds of supporters have emailed the Lord Chancellor over the past two years asking him to 'lose the loophole' which currently leaves older people open to mistreatment by private care providers.
Thousands of older people in private care homes could soon be protected from abuse by the Human Rights Act for the first time through the Government's late amendment to the Health and Social Care Bill.
The amendment marks a great victory for the most vulnerable older people who have been denied their most basic rights but have no protection in the law.
Thanks to everyone who has helped to make this success possible – from those heavily involved in the campaign and lobbying to those who supported by taking action.
We will keep everyone informed as the Bill goes through.
