Hundreds of thousands of older people live in poverty due to poor pensions and high taxation.

Older woman counting moneyOur benefits system is a confusing labyrinth. As a result many of those who struggle to survive on inadequate state pensions are unaware of the financial help they are entitled to. We need to ensure that our poorest older people do not miss out on vital supplements that are rightfully theirs.

Benefits

Hundreds of thousands of older people are living in poverty, yet many of them could claim extra cash.

Council Tax

Unable to afford ever-increasing bills, older people often have to choose between paying their Council Tax, and paying for heating, clothes and food.

Disability Benefits

People over 65 who become disabled can face age discrimination by being denied the disability benefit that is available to younger people.

Pensions

The State Pension is far too low. It's time to raise it to a level that enables older people to live, rather than just survive.
