The Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Appeal
On Friday 2nd May winds up to 150mph struck Myanmar (Burma). Cyclone Nargis created a 3.5 metre high storm surge, inundating coastal areas.
Tens of thousands of people have died and up to 1 million are believed to be homeless. We urgently need your help.
Help the Aged has launched a national appeal to help the people of Myanmar (Burma). We will be working through our international partner, HelpAge International, in country to bring relief to affected older people and their families.
Together we are coordinating an emergency response team to assess the situation of the estimated 170,000 older people in Myanmar affected by Cyclone Nargis.
Older people are particularly vulnerable during emergencies, but are often left out of general relief efforts.
A state of emergency has been declared in the five regions worst affected, where there is a desperate need for food, water, shelter, basic medicines and healthcare.
Older people are particularly vulnerable during emergencies, but are often left out of general relief efforts.
Help the Aged and HelpAge International are the only organisations focusing specifically on the needs of older people and will be working with partners to ensure that those affected by Cyclone Nargis are able to access relief packages and health services.
Hundreds of thousands of older people are without food, shelter or medical supplies.
Please take the time to help them today
Thank you.
