Man in a suitPayroll giving

Payroll giving is one of the easiest and most flexible methods of charitable giving, providing a reliable and vital stream of income to charities and local community groups.

Whether you're an employee or employer, this page contains all the information you need to set up a payroll giving scheme within your organisation.

Payroll giving for employees

Payroll giving allows you to donate a set amount, tax free, directly from your pay every month.

Benefits to you

Payroll giving is deducted from your pay before tax. This means, for example it only costs you £8 to give £10 to Help the Aged. What's more, you can choose where your money goes from three different Help the Aged Payroll Giving schemes:

  • Help the Aged
  • Research into ageing
  • Sponsor a grandparent

How you help us

Giving regularly through your pay allows us to plan for the future. It enables us to work on long-term projects and carry on giving vulnerable older people the help and support they need.

Set up payroll giving

If your company currently offers a payroll giving scheme, you can indicate that you would like to donate to Help the Aged through your pay by filling in a Payroll Giving donor form and passing it to your Payroll department.

Your monthly donations will then come straight out of your pay, before tax, each month.

Payroll giving for employers

Payroll giving is a low-cost scheme with minimal administrative requirements. It's an ideal way for organisations with smaller budgets to provide vital support for charities.

Benefits to your business

Research shows that payroll giving offers real business benefits including:

  • improving your social responsibility profile
  • enhancing community involvement programmes
  • improving staff recruitment and retention

Set up payroll giving in your organisation

To set up a payroll giving scheme within your organisation, you must, by law, sign up with a Payroll Giving Agency (PGA) which will process your employees' donations and distribute the money to their chosen charities.
