Love your feet!
The correct footwear is vital. Running shops like Run and Become and Pro Feet sell specialist footwear and can advise you about what shoe is suitable for your running level and style.
You’re not alone
Communicating with other runners provides motivation and support. Try to find yourself a running buddy or join a running club, they cater for all abilities. Running Partners can help you find someone of your level to run with or if you prefer to run alone try recording your progress in a running log.
Make running fun!
WalkJogRun can help you find different routes in your area. You can also try running to motivational music, or even try other types of exercise, like swimming or cycling, to keep your fitness levels up.
Prevent injuries
Be conscientious about injury prevention – you don't want to get struck down by injury weeks into your training, so remember our five points:
- Warming up, prior to or shortly into your training, is vital. So is warming down.
- Ensure correct and adequate stretching is incorporated into your training regime, including at least one session of stretching away from your running sessions.
- Avoid the temptation to run too far and too fast before your body is ready for it. Overloading your body’s tissues can lead to injury.
- If possible, seek advice on running technique and posture, or any other muscle imbalances. It’s easier to prevent an injury than it is to treat one once it has occurred.
- Don’t forget to incorporate rest days into training.
And finally, good luck!
