10 ways to log those miles

There are many benefits to walking: it's healthy, environmentally friendly, and does wonders for your wellbeing. And by joining the Big Spring Walk you know you're supporting older people in need.

Walk to work

For a great way to start the day, avoid the noisy, crowded tube and the snail's pace traffic on congested roads. Walking will get you to work calm and alert. You could stop to sniff a daisy, or pop to the shops on your way.

Walk out to eat

Choose a restaurant that's not too close to your home and work up an appetite by walking to the restaurant with a friend or partner, then burn some of the calories in that dessert by walking home!

Walk to school with your children, or take the pram to the park. You’ll get in a few good miles of walking and have plenty of energy for playtime!

Weekend walking

Plan a long walk in a beautiful environment. Do it alone and let your thoughts wander, or invite friends and make it sociable. Consider a walk that ends at a pub for a well-deserved lunch or drink!

Walk to the gym

Walk to the gym and you don't need to do so long on the treadmill when you're there - you can do a class or weights instead. A walk is a perfect way to warm up and cool down from your session.

Your lunchbreak is the perfect time for a power walk. Round up some colleagues and log a few miles. You’ll be fresh and alert for the rest of the afternoon!
