Research
Help the Aged is a major source of funding for research into ageing.
We spend around £3 million every year on research that aims to improve the quality of life of older people. This includes:
- biomedical research into age-related conditions: and
- social policy research to inform our campaigning work.
Research into Ageing
Biomedical research is funded through Research into Ageing, a special trust within Help the Aged.
We award grants to researchers working on the biology of ageing and age-related conditions like incontinence, osteoarthritis and dementia.

The Disconnected Mind
The Disconnected Mind is our flagship research programme designed to uncover the causes of mental deterioration in later life and find ways to prevent it.
We need donations to fund this unique and important project. Find out more and donate online on The Disconnected Mind website
Policy reports
Help the Aged commissions research with the objective of building a sound base of data to inform its policy positions and support its campaigns.
We consult older people, research the issues that matter to them, and aim to persuade decision-makers to implement policy that is in older people's interests.
