Ageing is a global issue for the 21st century.

Many older people face poverty, isolation, neglect or deprivation, especially in the developing world. Help the Aged aims to tackle these injustices wherever they occur.

Three-fifths of the world’s older people live in developing countries. It is predicted that by 2050 this figure will increase to three-quarters.

Most of the world's older people live below the poverty line

While increased life expectancy should be counted as a major success, most of the world's older people live below the poverty line and face a harsh future.

Healthcare is unaffordable or inaccessible for many in the developing world, particularly in rural areas. Access to state pensions is rare and many older people must work until the day they die.

We are fighting to overcome deprivation both now and in the future, and to reduce dependence in later life.
