Man looks out of the window of a minibusA Fare Deal

A Fare Deal is a new campaign that calls on the Scottish Government to extend free bus travel for older and disabled people to include demand responsive community transport.

A Fare Deal is a coalition of 12 organisations representing older people and those with disabilities. The coalition is led by Help the Aged in Scotland, Capability Scotland, and the Community Transport Association Scotland.

Demand responsive community transport is often a flexible bus service.  It allows people to get access to travel when and where they need it. It is unlike normal bus services, which have fixed timetables and bus stops. It is ideal for older people and those with disabilities because it is flexible and accessible.

However, demand responsive transport is not currently covered by the Scotland-wide free bus travel scheme. The Scottish Government is currently reviewing the free travel scheme. A Fare Deal coalition would like to see an extension of the scheme.
